Homeworld 3, the highly anticipated sci-fi RTS sequel from developer Blackbird Interactive and publisher Gearbox Publishing, will officially lose the legacy Fig.co site on May 29th, 2023. As a result, key communications will be changing very soon.

According to a new post on Steam, Fig transferred the entire backer list and other key info so that Fig Rewards can still be distributed correctly. This was probably the biggest concern, and it does sound like a clunky undertaking, but hopefully everything will remain intact.

Direct communication is being changed to your Fig account email, and Fig support can’t help users change their contact information or preferences anymore. Instead, you will have to submit a ticket through Gearbox support.

Also, the Homeworld Universe site will take up the responsibility of quarterly updates from now on. It’s fortunate that things won’t be slowing down. The transition is ultimately pretty seamless, if a bit sudden. But the devs did conveniently work up a new Q&A section on Gearbox Software Support.

There’s certainly plenty of time to become accustomed to the new site and complete any small chores after Fig is shut down. Originally expected in 2022, Homeworld 3 was just delayed again until February 2024, with a delay post that was very similar to the 2022 post. The devs have cited the typical need to “refine and polish”.

It remains unclear if the game will be the most satisfying installment yet, or if it’s a little too ambitious for its own good. Either way, a clean launch is always best, and it doesn’t seem like the devs are fishing for media presence when the delay will take so long.
