In the expansive universe of Starfield, players often find themselves engaging in various challenges to enhance their gameplay experience. One such challenge revolves around the fitness skill, a beginner-level physical skill that focuses on increasing your Oxygen intake. However, a recent bug has left many players scratching their heads, as the Fitness Challenge seems to be stuck, not showing any progress.

Use our guide to potentially fix the fitness challenge not working issue in Starfield!

Starfield ‘Fitness Challenge not Working’ – How to Fix

For those unfamiliar, the fitness skill in Starfield is designed to boost your Oxygen intake. But, a glitch/bug has emerged where, despite players trying to intake a specific amount of Oxygen, the counter remains stubbornly at 0. This means that even after using or exhausting the said Oxygen, the taskbar doesn’t change, leading to understandable frustration.

The challenge in question requires players to ‘Use up all available oxygen 20 times’. But, due to the bug, this task isn’t progressing as it should. However, there’s a specific method tested out on the Starfield Reddit to ensure it counts:

  1. Start by using up your entire WHITE O2 bar.
  2. Continue running to fill up the RED CO2 bar. You’ll receive a warning message that continuing will cause health damage. Note: This message only appears the first time.
  3. Ensure you sprint from a full O2 bar to a full CO2 bar. This action should end your sprint and add to the challenge count.

It’s essential to remember that for the challenge to count, you shouldn’t have any CO2 buildup when your O2 depletes. This means you don’t need to wait for your O2 or CO2 to fully recover. Just ensure you start from 0% CO2 and fill it up to around 50-60%.

A clever method I found to do this more swiftly is to become encumbered, as this drains oxygen faster, helping in completing the fitness challenge more swiftly.

Spaced Trait Workaround in Starfield

Another workaround that may help is for those who have the Spaced Trait, as this will increase your health and oxygen values in space. Just run while in orbit on your ship and see if the fitness challenge will progress. It’s worth attempting this even without the Spaced trait.
