In Starfield, you have multiple galaxies to explore and planets to land on. But not even in the deep reaches of space can save you from bugs. Some users are experiencing a progression bug in the ‘Into the Unknown’ mission, where quest steps won’t appear, and they cannot continue.

In this guide, I’ll mention all the fixes and workaround I’ve found, and hopefully, one of them will work, as it’s not a guarantee. If not, you’ll have to wait for an official patch from Bethesda.

Starfield ‘Into the Unknown’ Bug – How to Fix

It seems many players are experiencing the Starfield ‘Into the Unknown’ bug, where the quest fails to progress by not receiving a landing marker on the surface of Procoyon III. Upon researching this bug, I’ve managed to locate some potential solutions. Some of which sadly will turn your game into a modded save, disabling achievements, if you deem to try that method out. Here’s a list of hopeful fixes to the Starfield ‘Into the Unknown’ bug.

Fast Travel Far Away

The most common method is to fast travel to anywhere else than Procyon III, and then some more, and then return. This may not work, but it’s always worth a try.

Make Sarah Your Companion

One user on Reddit states that making Sarah your companion and making Sam become one of your crew members on your ship. Then, speak to them. This may not work for you, but a simple solution is always the quickest one to try.

Use setstage 000160A9 600 in Console Command

Warning: Doing this will mark your save as being modded, and you will be unable to acquire achievements. This is a workaround, not a fix.

Another Reddit user mentions that using this command—setstage 000160A9 600—in Console Commands will skip part of the Into the Unknown quest and allow you to move on. However, you will miss a vital part of the quest and a lot of plot. So, if you choose to do this, head back to the lodge.

This workaround has the highest chance of succeeding, but as I stated, you may miss essential information, and your file will become modded. There is a mod that allows you to get achievements if you care about them. If not, use this command and watch an Into the Unknown YouTube video to find out what you’ve lost out on.

Don’t Complete Legacy’s End – Sysdef/Crimson Fleet Quest

Reddit users state that completing a specific quest called Legacy’s End, which is the Sysdef/Crimson Son Fleet quest, may glitch out your Into the Unknown quest. One person claims they started it but never finished it and could progress through Into the Unknown perfectly fine, and others claim they haven’t even begun Legacy’s End and couldn’t progress Into the Unknown.

Reload an Earlier Save

This isn’t a fix but more a workaround. Sometimes, loading a previous save and then trying to progress Into the Unknown quest may work. However, this depends on how often you save, as no one wants to lose progress many hours back.

I shot Vlad once and it reset his dialogue so I can continue the mission.
