The Front is a post-apocalyptic sandbox survival game about building a base and surviving against enemies populating the world. Once you’ve started building your base with crafting stations, you can get followers to help you use the stations, but getting followers is not as simple as it sounds.

In this guide, we’ll run you through the steps needed to get followers in The Front. And before you waste resources on the Space Beacon, don’t get it now; it won’t help you gain followers. If you want a guide on how to use the Manual Miner in The Front, we’ve got you covered.

The Front Followers Guide

To add followers to your base in The Front, you must first have created Simple Jammers and find out what the NPC’s favorite food is who you’re trying to recruit. These are essential to acquiring followers; if you do not have these, then you cannot get anyone to aid you with your base. It’s a bit strange, but let me explain. Here’s a pro tip: only attempt to recruit one follower at once, as you can only subdue one follower at a time.

How to Make Simple Jammers in The Front

To make Simple Jammers in The Front, you need to navigate to the Tech Tree and craft them. You need the following materials:

  • 2 Iron Ingots
  • 2 Tape
  • 2 Ether shards

After you’ve created Simple Jammers, you’ll notice these are an item you can equip. This is important to know.

How Tame Enemies in The Front

To tame enemies in The Front, you must throw these Simple Jammers at enemies under specific circumstances. They need to be at low health. So, damage these enemies a few times, and you’ll notice a new red symbol appear over them, resembling broken chains/shackles. When this icon appears, throw a Simple Jammer at them, and it’ll turn into a blue icon with a face; this means they are stunned.

The Importance of Favorite Food in The Front

Now comes the strange part of taming enemies in the Front. Interact with them when they are kneeling and navigate to their favorite food window. This can be found by pressing the middle button underneath their name. This window will show you what their favorite foods are, for example, Wild Berry. Now, you must fill their Inventory with Wild Berry.

There is a reason for this. When you come back out of the inventory menu and hover over the NPC, you’ll notice two bars. A Chaos bar and an Obedience bar. These are exceptionally important to acquiring an NPC follower.

  • The Chaos bar is essentially their stun meter in a way that when it’s high, you’re okay, they are friendly, everything is cool, but when it becomes close to zero, you’ll lose your chance at recruiting this enemy.
  • The Obedience bar is how close you are to taming this new recruit, and this meter goes up once they consume their favorite food.

How to manage the Chaos and Obedience Bars in The Front

If the Choas bar is close to becoming empty, there’s no need to panic. Just throw another SImple Jammer at them, and the bar will go back up to full. This is why it’s important to have multiple Simple Jammers on you at all times.

For the Obedience bar, you need to ensure you are stocked up and keep giving them food until it reaches 100%; interact with them to Subdue them and make them your follower. They will now start to follow you. Lead them back to your base. When at your base, hold down the interact button and choose the option to Recall Follower. This will add them to your inventory. Yes, you read the correctly.

Now head to the crafting station you want them assigned to, interact with it, and in the top right corner should read Follower Bar. Drag them from your inventory to this square underneath the Follower Bar to assign them to that station, but remember to keep giving them their favorite food! You can find followers who have skills, but these are pretty rare!
