The Front is a post-apocalyptic sandbox survival game that is inhabited by mutants and other things that want to kill you. You have to craft, build a base, and survive against the oncoming horde. One thing you can build for your base is the Manual Miner in the Structure Tech Tree, but how exactly do you use it?

Well, use our guide as we run you through all the steps on how to use the Manual Miner and what it does, as many players find themselves puzzled when they first place the Manual Miner in the Front. If you’re looking to know how to gain followers, use our guide here: How to Get Followers in The Front.

How to Use the Manual Miner in The Front

You’ll need to place the Manual Miner on the ground in The Front to get started. Once it’s set up, the key is to interact with it correctly. Even though The Front says to press F, it’s not exactly telling you the truth. Unlike other structures where a simple press of the interact button opens up options, the Manual Miner requires you to hold down the F button for a few seconds until a menu wheel appears.

When the wheel appears, it allows you to choose between mining minerals and gathering Crude Oil. Crude Oil is the option on the right, and mining ore is the option at the very bottom. Select the one you want, and your character will climb on top of it to start the miner. Make sure to select the resource you’re most in need of, as the Manual Miner can only gather one type at a time.

It’s worth noting that the Manual Miner is not the fastest way to gather resources. It’s best used when you’re AFK (Away From Keyboard), but only for 10 minutes at a time. it doesn’t work for long stretches of time you’ll be away. The Manual Miner won’t earn you anything fast, but it will provide a steady, albeit slow, stream of resources when you’re not actively playing Frontier. It’s a great way to keep your resource stockpiles growing while you focus on other aspects of the game.
