Hammerwatch II, an anticipated sequel to the hit hack-and-slash adventure from returning developer Crackshell and new publisher Modus Games, has released a new gameplay trailer delving into modding tools. The trailer shows off tower defense, platforming, racing and more.

Hammerwatch II is slated to launch on August 15th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist the game and try a demo now.

Today’s trailer description adds that the game should be ported to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S “later this year”, though a concrete release date wasn’t confirmed. You can watch the new mod trailer on the Modus Games YouTube channel:

Although the previous title released a decade ago, the modding tools were among its most notable tools. They largely contributed to the longevity of the original. The developers smartly confirmed that modding would return right when Hammerwatch II was first announced back in April.

Fortunately, today’s trailer reveals that the upcoming modding tools will be just as flexible as fans could hope for. The new gameplay showcases a wide variety of alterations, including some more obscure delights like the “Military” mod and “Dune Sharks”.

However, the Priest and Druid gameplay also look like plenty of fun, and it’ll be interesting to see how the fanbase is able to add their own personality with the sequel. It would have been helpful to see some specifics for level editing support. This way, it would be clearer how things have evolved and what limitations that players might encounter.

Ideally, there will also be a smooth transition for modding when it comes to the console ports expected this year. Hammerwatch II’s Steam page confirms that “full modding support” will be available at launch.
