As part of the King of Fighters XV Season 2 patch 1.70, SNK is bringing the Korean taekwondo master from the classic Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series, Kim Kaphwan.
KOF XV patch 1.70 releases today along with the latest DLC character, Kim Kaphwan. Learn more about Kim Kaphwan’s moves and gameplay in a new character breakdown trailer, provided by SNK OFFICIAL Youtube channel:
As an expert in Taekwondo, Kim can stop any opponent’s attempt with his unpunishable kicking techniques. His excessive diligence is a thorn in the side of Luong and Kim’s free-spirited master, Gang-Il.
As revealed in the video, Kim is a rushdown fighter with a game plan consisting of effective jumping/advancing attacks and various midair specials followed up by deadly combos. Many of Kim’s specials result in hard knockdowns as well, creating a vicious cycle of punishment. One example of this is his anti-air, Hienzan (Heavy and EX versions). The hard knockdown on hit allows him to quickly shift from defense to offense.
Hangetsuzan (Light Version) is another powerful move of Kim Kaphwan. It recovers fast on block, so link into it from Crouching HP or other moves with large hitboxes. After it hits, follow it up with the Super Special Move Houou Kyaku to rack up more damage. Meanwhile, Hangetsuzan (EX Version) allows Kim to cover about 60% of the screen.
Kim’s Hisen Kyaku is a new weapon that allows him to close the gap on his opponents. The Light version has a fast recovery and performs effectively in the midrange. The Heavy version provides significantly more aerial coverage (about 80% of the screen) and is ideal for surprise attacks. Kim can still move first on block, which is useful for swooping in from afar. If the opponent is near enough after the hit, Kim may respond with an additional offense.
Kim Kaphwan is an excellent option for players of every skill level in King of Fighters XV. With the right combination of moves and timing, Kim could be a formidable fighter that may even be able to take down characters from higher tiers.
