While some players might prefer to play games that let them take on enemies in a balanced environment, the Dark Souls series has inspired a whole genre where players have to work hard to defeat opponents. Lifespace Traveler is an indie cyberpunk adventure Souls-like that seeks to evolve on this, releasing today, June 26.
On Lifespace Traveler‘s page on Steam, the game promises similar gameplay to the series it draws inspiration from, including more specific controls. The combat encourages the player to be aware of their placement around enemies and to make specific choices to succeed in each fight. According to developer Dino Trnka, there is no one strategy that can get you through all the levels.
Players can take their time and interact with NPCs if they want to learn the story, but there’s also an option to ignore it for those who prefer straight action. The hack-and-slash mechanics and narrative pair together to create a unique world Trnka worked hard on. Players will enjoy the game while listening to Synthwave music that’s inspired by the energetic tunes in Hotline Miami.
In a comment on the game’s release, Trnka, who is also the creator, says, “I am excited to share this special moment with players worldwide. The world of Lifespace Traveler is designed for players eager to take on significant challenges and test their patience, skills, and gaming techniques, just like in Souls-like games.” This title is his first game, which he spent the last four years developing.
Lifespace Traveler is available now on Steam for a little less than $13 USD with a 15 percent discount that lasts until July 3.
