Highrise City, an upcoming city sim focused on economy and resource management from developer Fourexo Entertainment and publisher Deck13, has set a full release window for 2023. It has been in Early Access since 2022, regularly adding a series of updates. That version is available now on PC via Steam.
A new post on the game’s Steam page states that today’s new Science Update is the final big update until the full release “later this year”. Once the game leaves Early Access, it will add a variety of new features. Some highlights include new story missions, another map, new production chains and more.
Publisher Deck13 also revealed a new gameplay trailer on their YouTube channel, to coincide with today’s new update and announcement:
The city building genre has been busier than ever, especially as Paradox Interactive’s highly anticipated Cities: Skylines II releases Feature Highlight trailers, beginning with traffic AI last month. And there are some qualities of Highrise City that quite resemble traditional staples of the genre.
However, the devs definitely emphasize management and production chains, making it more of a tycoon game than a building sim.
This may not be distinguishable enough for casual players, and they might even be taken aback. But longtime fans of the genre should appreciate the challenge of complex upkeep and budgeting. The graphics have also become unexpectedly polished. It would’ve been helpful if today’s trailer showed off the mechanics themselves.
A series of updates have reworked the research system, and even allowed buildings to catch on fire. The quality-of-life improvements have been most impressive, as the devs swiftly respond to fan feedback. They’ve mentioned plans to “keep optimizing the gameplay experience” before full release.
