Marvel Snap is set to introduce the Spotlight Cache, which according to the devs will give players increased access to cards, and thereby expanding the potential for growing their collections at a faster pace.
The Spotlight Cache is a fresh system designed for procuring newly released cards, including those from Series 4 and Series 5. This mechanism will come into effect after a player surpasses Collection Level (CL) 500. Spotlight Caches will supplant Collector’s Caches and Collector’s Reserves every 120CL. This alteration results in every tenth Collector’s Reserve transforming into a Spotlight Cache.
Every week, three different cards from Series 4 and 5, including the week’s new release, will be featured. Opening a Spotlight Cache ensures that a player will receive one of these three cards or a random S4/S5 card. If a player already possesses one of the featured cards, the Spotlight Cache will instead present a time-exclusive variant for that card.
The Spotlight Cache’s reward pool is refreshed each week and includes one brand-new card, two existing Series 4/5 cards, and a random Series 4/5 card. This new system aims to bring more cards to a greater number of players, regardless of their current position in their journey. Players who complete their Daily Missions, even those enjoying the game free-to-play, can anticipate a Series 4/5 card from their Spotlight Cache nearly every week. This marks a substantial increase compared to the previous system, which necessitated grinding 6000 Tokens to procure a single Series 5 card within a month.
The introduction of the Spotlight Cache is a response to feedback indicating players felt unable to engage with new card releases each week. Under the new system, about 25% of players who finish their Daily Missions can acquire the new card each week without any charges.
While the new system offers more cards to players, the existing functionality for targeting specific cards for collection is retained. If a player wishes to obtain a particular card, such as Thanos, they will have a one in four chance to earn Thanos when Thanos is featured in the Spotlight Cache that week. As the player continues to open Spotlight Caches, their chances of getting the featured card increase, and opening four guarantees all featured Series 4/5 cards for that week.
Despite the emphasis on the Collection Level Track and the Spotlight Cache system for adding new cards to collections, Collector’s Tokens and the Token Shop will persist as a secondary support system for unlocking targeted cards. As part of this shift, while the overall card availability is increasing, there is a decrease in the emphasis on the Token Shop and the amount of Collector’s Tokens received in other ways.
Existing Collector’s Caches and Collector’s Reserves will convert into Spotlight Caches at the appropriate rate once the new system is in place. All Series 4 and 5 cards will move into the Spotlight Cache. The odds of finding a Series 4, Series 5, or Spotlight Variant in Spotlight Caches are set such that each has an equal chance of being drawn from the “bag” of four items.
Marvel Snap plans to announce the weekly Spotlight Cache reward pools at the start of each season, giving players a chance to strategize for what’s upcoming. They also will announce any Series drop at least two weeks in advance of it happening, ensuring players have a six-week “safe” window to spend tokens on a card without it dropping.
