Top-down arena shooters with pixel graphics were the bread and butter of indie games in the 2010s, with the newly announced Mega City Police seemingly evolving on this concept. The 1980s action movie-inspired title is expected to release on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on July 28.
This new title is being developed by Undreamed Games and seems to be inspired by classic 1980s movies like Robocop and the Rambo series. The gameplay looks really similar to fast-paced action games like Broforce, but from the top down. Mega City Police is a roguelike that promises intense action while you listen to the music of Droid Bishop, Timecop1983, sublunar, and more.
The title clearly has a lot of retro inspirations from old movies and TV, with the screen even having the rounded corners of old CRT monitors. Paired with the typical flickering, it’s a pretty decent job of creating that retro feeling, even in the trailer. The synthwave music will only add to that nostalgic feeling, transporting players back to another time.
This is entirely intended by the developer, with every character, weapon, and item made to give players the feeling of being transported back to the action movies of the 1980s and 1990s. With the game expected to release in exactly a month, players can wishlist to show their support on the Mega City Cop Steam page. This will also notify you when the game releases via an in-app notification and email.
This is the first title from developer Undreamed Games, but publisher Ravenage Games has a number of recent indie titles under its belt.
