Hammer of Virtue, an upcoming indie adventure and melee action game from developer No Pest Productions and publisher Jens Kolhammar, will officially launch onto PC on August 7th, 2023. It will feature fully destructible environments across more than 20 stages, as well as couch co-op and Deathmatch gameplay, as teased in February’s trailer.
Hammer of Virtue will be available on PC via Steam on August 7th, where you can play a demo or wishlist the game now. A PlayStation 5 release date has been slated for 2024, according to today’s new trailer. You can watch the release date trailer on the No Pest Productions YouTube channel:
Hammer of Virtue has a fairly straightforward gameplay loop, but proudly leans into the fantastic. The result is a nifty, ambitious indie with attitude and all the appeal of a classic arcade game. It looks similar to the absolute mayhem of unleashing Musou attacks into a crowd in Dynasty Warriors.
The high concept hammer melee action also has terrific physics. This won’t just make the combat feel more satisfying, but probably more amusing, almost like crossing a party game with a superhero game. A lot of indies thrive on hilarious physics, such as the ragdoll hit Gang Beasts.
Also, the destructible environments are certain to result in a lot of surprises during combat. It’s a world that looks worth exploring, just to discover how you can demolish the new scenery and enemies.
It’s a shame that today’s trailer only shows off a couple of stages, because Hammer of Virtue’s Steam page mentions quite a few. It’d be nice to see environments that feel a little busier, and more of the inventive enemies, which will include the likes of monkeys with swords and armored bears.
