Miniland Adventure, a new indie sim and base builder from developer Imilkowski Dev, has released a new trailer that coincides with launch. The trailer features a swift gameplay overview of all the key mechanics.
Miniland Adventure is available now on PC via Steam, with no word on plans for other supported platforms. You can watch the full release trailer on publisher PlayWay’s YouTube channel here:
Even including all of the closer details on Miniland Adventure’s Steam page, this indie borrows quite a lot of mechanics and visuals from the likes of Stardew Valley and Minecraft. This includes all of the farming, pixels, and even a day/night cycle that invites enemies during the late hours.
However, Miniland Adventure will be distinguished by the central mechanic that lets players expand the world themselves, using biome tiles.
This feature was recently seen in TerraScape, which recently revealed a roadmap for 2023. But the tiles are built around cards and strategy, where the wrong tile could be punishing. Also, TerraScape is aiming for a tabletop experience. Instead, Miniland Adventure is more interested in pure exploration and retro pixel art.
It seems that the devs really wanted to match the freedom in Minecraft. For example, the level of interaction with their world is very encouraging. Although Miniland Adventure has a lot of familiar mechanics, it also has a surprising volume of them. All of the smaller mechanics that make a world tactile and immersive are present.
That should be more than enough for some, offering a consistent sense of discovery as new biomes and enemies are unlocked. Overall, Miniland Adventure seems totally fine, though it could probably use more inventive ideas and some clearer lore to invest in.
