Mr. Sun’s Hatbox, an upcoming roguelite indie platformer from developer Kenny Sun and publisher Raw Fury, will officially launch on April 20th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, where a demo is available now. Today’s release date trailer has revealed that it will now launch on the Nintendo Switch too.

For now, there is no word on adding other supported platforms in the future. You can watch the new trailer, which features a gameplay overview, on the Raw Fury YouTube channel here:

Perhaps the most compelling thing about Mr. Sun’s Hatbox is its corporate humor, which somewhat resembles the parody in Stick it to the Stickman, a brawler that was announced late last year.

In the case of Mr. Sun’s Hatbox, players are actually in charge, but that opened the door for all sorts of comedy about business practices. From “persuading” enemies to discarding employees at will, and even building your base of operations in the basement, today’s trailer is genuinely funny.

But it looks like Mr. Sun’s Hatbox will be an entertaining game first and foremost, as the sense of humor is seamlessly woven in. Since characters can be permanently lost, players will need to adapt to new mechanics and teams for every mission.

And although the game’s official Steam page is full of hat puns, the hat mechanics themselves are playful and creative. Not only do they offer a variety of abilities, but they also have random designs, like the shark hat and jetpacks.

Fortunately, Mr. Sun’s Hatbox will also offer both coop and PvP gameplay. It has all of the charm of a party game, but also offers a full story and other unexpected systems on top of that.
