Frank and Drake, an upcoming story-driven mystery and adventure game from developer Appnormals Team and publisher Chorus Worldwide Games, will officially launch on July 20th, 2023.
Frank and Drake will be available on PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch. A console port for PlayStation and Xbox are expected soon, but don’t have a release date yet. You can watch today’s new release date trailer on the Chorus Worldwide Games YouTube channel:
We covered an extensive preview about this game just earlier today, but it’s nice to have more concrete details about the release, supported platforms, and public gameplay footage to discuss.
Given today’s trailer, it is immediately clear that the devs have a remarkable flair for grounding the dramatic with a patient, intimate tone. The story feels unexpectedly somber, though colorful and tense. In the new gameplay trailer, this is expertly reinforced by the atmospheric music and the urgency of the on-screen text.
There is an overwhelming sensation that the world in Frank and Drake is askew. The visuals represent this by colliding a variety of different art styles and imagery. Surprisingly, this includes a lot of horror iconography, which intrudes on everyday environments. The rotoscoping is also certain to catch your attention, but it isn’t just a gimmick. It properly serves the world and themes.
Frank and Drake boasts a very slick premise that is sure to intrigue fans of the narrative genre. Most of the story is left untold, but the Steam page explains that the protagonists must uncover the truth about their pasts to survive the threat of a conspiracy. It seems deeply psychological, and the player choices should be quite flexible, maintaining a strong sense of constant discovery.
