The soon-to-be-released supernatural horror film, Five Nights at Freddy’s, has unveiled four new posters that display the unsettling animatronic characters set to haunt Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Directed by Emma Tammi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback, the film is based on the video game franchise of the same name, conceptualized and developed by Cawthon.
Among the cast are notable actors such as Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, and Elizabeth Lail. The film’s development journey, which started in April 2015 with Warner Bros. Pictures’ involvement and director Gil Kenan’s signing, witnessed several delays before Warner Bros. placed the project into turnaround, leading to Kenan’s departure.
In March 2017, Blumhouse Productions took over the production reins. Chris Columbus was initially set to write and direct in February 2018, but he eventually left the project. Tammi assumed the director’s role and co-writer’s responsibility in October 2022. The film’s principal photography began in New Orleans in February 2023, wrapping up on April 3 the same year.
The film’s official description presents the plot: “A troubled security guard starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, only to discover that surviving the night shift will be more challenging than anticipated.”
A recent leak unveiled the first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s, albeit in poor quality. The posters suggest that the film will retain key elements from the game, such as the chilling animatronics and the core concept of enduring a night of chaos in a family-friendly pizzeria.
The current trend in successful video game adaptations raises hopes for the film’s potential success, as Hollywood seems to have found the formula for creating movies that satisfy fans without alienating general audiences. Whether Five Nights at Freddy’s will join the ranks of these successful adaptations remains to be seen.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is slated for a simultaneous theatrical and Peacock release in the United States by Universal Pictures on October 27, 2023.
