If you had told players what Epic Games would evolve Fortnite to over the last few years, not many would have believed you. However, a new job posting from Epic Games may be hinting at a new open-world title or mode within Fortnite, according to reporting from a well-known data miner and content creator.
The information comes from ShiinaBR, who shared the info on Twitter after being DMed by someone who noticed the new position. According to the listing the job “will involve working on an open-world survival crafting game within a physics sandbox.” While Fortnite already has some of these markers, it’s a battle royale title before anything else.
One could make the argument that this just describes Epic’s current battle royale mode, but it’s hardly a survival mode, with even the Save the World mode being more reminiscent of tower-defense games. Epic hasn’t shied away from including interesting new modes like Creative and LTMs, so this addition wouldn’t be that far-fetched.
This follows leaks that Epic Games will introduce a new racing mode to Fortnite sometime around the start of Chapter Five. With the developer just now hiring for the new game mode, it’s unlikely to come anytime soon.
