With the growing availability of internet connectivity in the last couple of decades, online multiplayer and survival games have seen a boom. Now, a new studio, Red Rover Interactive, has announced it has formed and secured $5 million in funding in the effort to “unlock new possibilities in multiplayer gaming.”
The developer is still in its early days, only ready to reveal that it existed earlier today, so it will likely be a little while before we see its first project. However, a press release sent out this morning ahead of the announcement points to the multiplayer genre mentioned above, but also that Red Rover has planned on “shaking up the survival genre in the process.”
The company is currently headed by professionals from some of the most prominent developers in the industry, like Ubisoft and Bohemia Interactive, including:
- CEO: Fred Richardson
- COO: Joe Stevens
- Design Director: Marek Zilavy
- Technical Director: Daniel Ratzer
- Art Director: Sebastian Zimmermann
While the press release works to not give too much away, it seems that the developer is hoping to leverage its developers’ past experience working on large-scale multiplayer games to create a new survival experience. However, CEO Fred Richardson states how he views multiplayer differently, saying “We believe multiplayer interactions are fundamentally more powerful than PVE ones.”
The developer has 17 members at its founding, mostly made up of people that have worked together in the past. Red Rover hopes to create a product that offers “infinite engagement,” stating that it hopes to capture the attention of content creators specifically. It’s also hiring, with those located in Oslo or Newcastle invited to apply.
