Star Ocean: The Divine Force just continued its marketing campaign by releasing new images of the planet Aster IV, and one of its points of interest points to the return of Welch Vineyard.
You can check out four new locations in Aster IV on Star Ocean’s official Twitter feed:
Star Ocean recently released their very first mission report for the latest installment, explaining the new characters and gameplay mechanics.
It also hinted that players would get “vast environments” to explore, and the latest images are delivering on that promise. The desert landscapes are contrasted with elaborate urban areas, each with their own unique feel.
But one of them clearly shows off the giant pointing hand, and fans were quick to recognize the tease for Welch’s return. Her character famously carries a staff with a pointing hand at the end, iconography that’s become closely associated with Welch’s business or home.
Welch Vineyard is a tomboyish inventor, who is generally tied to the players’ Item Creation mechanics. For example, players could visit Welch at Medock in Star Ocean 5 to upgrade equipment and more.
She could potentially be either an NPC or playable character, having assumed both roles in previous installments of the series. Thanks to her cheerful and strong attitude, she quickly became a fan favorite character, and it’ll be interesting to see how they’ve weaved her into the new narrative on Aster IV.
The Star Ocean devs also released some broader images of the planet Aster IV earlier today, alongside some intriguing backstory:
Given the history and stunning images of Aster IV, fans should be pleased with its landscapes and cityscapes. It’s clear that Star Ocean: The Divine Force is aiming to be just as ambitious as ever, continuing its reputation as a staple of the JRPG genre.
