Not For Broadcast, the comedic FMV simulator where players must control the National Nightly News station, has just announced that a new Live & Spooky DLC will roll out on March 23rd, 2023. Not For Broadcast fully launched last year, and is currently available on PC. Here’s the new trailer for the upcoming DLC from publisher tinyBuild’s YouTube channel:

Aside from a few hidden gems, when the FMV (or Full-Motion Video) genre performs poorly, it really bombs. The live action performances and scenarios are rarely up to par, and the mechanics struggle to deliver anything new. However, Not For Broadcast was a surprise hit, largely thanks to its bizarre nature and wicked sense of humor.

The devs proved themselves naturally clever, both in their premise and their mechanics. If the hook isn’t enough, the various responsibilities of the player create a ridiculously fun juggling act. This allows more opportunities for the player to feel gleefully indulgent or supremely talented.

Fortunately, today’s trailer continues to hold up the same kind of quality and quirks. Given how many live-action paranormal documentaries there are, this is a very slick way to introduce a little horror. It should please fans of ghost hunting shows, akin to Phasmophobia, which recently teased its next major update.

It’s a shame that the Live & Spooky DLC won’t actually launch anywhere near Halloween, but Not For Broadcast wouldn’t have it any other way. Set on a stormy night, players will have the chance to uncover a mystery, deal with spiritual mediums, and lots of new buttons to discover.
