Pinball FX, the digital pinball sim featuring dozens of familiar IP and original tables from developer and publisher Zen Studios, has just released a new trailer featuring all-new tables. The new tables will include Whirlwind and the Honor and Legacy pack, which adds two Zen originals themed around Feudal Japan and pirates.

Pinball FX launched last April and is available now on PC, as well as current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. A port for the Nintendo Switch is expected this year. You can watch the new trailer for the Pinball FX update on the Zen Studios YouTube channel:

Pinball FX often thrives on some surprising licensing, such as the nod to Godzilla vs. Kong that was included when the game first launched on Steam in April. Unfortunately, today’s new tables are mostly going to be reserved for enthusiasts who are already on board with the premise of digital pinball.

Longtime fans have been frustrated with Pinball FX since launch. However, this isn’t so much in regard to content or performance, though there have been complaints about the new physics. Instead, negativity centers on the prospect of purchasing tables you already own all over again. Further, the tables have been rolled out in packs, making it tougher to get into the particulars you’d prefer.

Granted, Whirlwind is a classic, and the devs have announced a new accessory to recreate the wind effects of the physical table. They’ve also worked on integrating real DMD support, which is the part of a table that would show you key info during gameplay.

The new tables look gorgeous, thoughtful, and fairly interactive. But that likely won’t be enough to invite newcomers, and with aggravated longtime fans, there’s still an uphill climb for Pinball FX.
