The PlayStation Store is rolling out Accessibility Tags this week on the PS5 console, allowing game developers to provide more information on the accessibility features supported in their games. Players browsing PlayStation Store game hubs on their PS5 consoles can view a list of accessibility features by pressing the “Triangle” button on supported games. These Accessibility Tags cover a range of options, from visual and audio accessibility settings to DualSense controller customizations, difficulty settings, and online communication features such as chat transcription.
Accessibility Tags will be available for both PS5 and PS4 games on the PlayStation Store, accessible via the PS5 console. When both PS5 and PS4 versions of a game are available, players can compare the Accessibility Tags for each through a dropdown menu.
The new feature aims to make it easier for players to identify if a game includes the accessibility options they require. Over 50 Accessibility Tags are available for game developers to select from, spanning six categories:
- Visual accessibility features, including clear text, large text, color alternatives, audio cues, and directional audio indicators.
- Audio features, such as volume controls, mono audio, screen readers, and visual cue alternatives.
- Subtitle and caption options, including customizable subtitle size, clear captions, and large captions.
- Control options, such as button remapping, thumbstick sensitivity adjustments, and gameplay without button holds, rapid button presses, or motion control.
- Gameplay options, including difficulty settings, skippable puzzles, simplified quick time events, and adjustable game speed.
- Online communication options, including text or voice chat transcription and ping communication.
The Accessibility Tags will be gradually released on the PlayStation Store for PS5 starting this week. During the launch, various games, like Days Gone, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War, God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal, will offer Accessibility Tags. The company plans to collaborate with numerous developers to include this feature in their PS5 game hubs in the upcoming weeks and months.
Accessibility Tags, combined with the extensive accessibility settings within the PS5 console UI, empower players to personalize their gaming experience to meet their individual needs. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to make gaming more accessible, alongside inclusively-designed games from PlayStation Studios and upcoming products like Project Leonardo.
