PlayStation’s previously acquired Finnish mobile game studio, Savage Game Studios, has officially announced that it has rebranded to Neon Koi. The revelation surfaced through a recent post on Neon Koi’s LinkedIn page, signaling a significant transformation for the studio.

Sony Interactive Entertainment welcomed Savage Game Studios into its family in August 2022, marking the tech giant’s first significant mobile acquisition. Founded in 2020 by industry veterans Michail Katkoff, Nadjim Adjir, and Michael McManus, Savage Game Studios joined Sony as part of PlayStation’s strategic move to expand its presence in the mobile gaming sector. This acquisition played a pivotal role in PlayStation’s aggressive growth plan, disclosed in 2022, to establish a network of internal studios and projects dedicated to mobile gaming.

Jim Ryan, SIE’s President and CEO, had previously outlined ambitious targets for mobile gaming before he announced his retirement, stating that 10% of first-party releases would be on mobile by March 2023. However, until now, this plan remains unfulfilled.

Meanwhile, the rebranding of Savage Game Studios to Neon Koi unfolded following Michail Katkoff’s departure from the studio in July 2023, leaving Nadjim Adjir and Michael McManus in the lead. The transformation also comes after the exit of Savage’s general manager, Sophie Vo, in September 2023.

After consideration and reflection on our values, mission, and the incredible growth we’ve experienced, we’ve decided to embrace a new identity that better aligns with our vision for the future. Neon Koi represents our culture and the passions of our game project.

Neon Koi is dedicated to creating action games with epic stories, aiming to build a stella portfolio over the next decade. Neon Koi’s strategy involves fostering highly collaborative, experienced, and empowered teams in both Helsinki and Berlin.
