Return to Monkey Island has gained a lot of praise for successfully continuing the classic adventure series with the same humor, cleverness, and artistic quality that earned so many fans in the 90’s.

Point and click games often have trouble reaching casual gamers, who prefer traditional interactions. Further, the genre tends to be associated with PC.

But Return to Monkey Island has a gorgeous art design, and a tremendously charming story. Exploring the world is very satisfying, just to discover more of the storybook-style artwork. Everything feels larger than life, thoughtful, and rich with lore. Players can also easily invest in these characters, who are likable and fun. These key features really make the genre more accessible.

Porting Return to Monkey Island to mobile devices is a great move, and it’s a surprise that the genre hasn’t taken this approach even further. Mobile devices always require streamlined controls for convenience’s sake, and point and click games would be easy to take on the go. Return to Monkey Island thrived on the Nintendo Switch in much the same way.

Hopefully, Return to Monkey Island will find a new audience on mobile, encouraging them to revisit the classics and hope for more in the franchise.
