The Blind Prophet, a point and click adventure game from developer and publisher Ars Goetia, is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 26th, 2023.
This turned out to be the big reveal that was teased in RedDeerGames’ recent trailer for their May lineup of Indie Spring Spree titles. The other indies include Tiny Dragon Story, For a Vast Future, and Mechanic 8230: Escape from Ilgrot.
The Blind Prophet originally launched in 2020, and is available now on PC via Steam. You can watch the full Nintendo Switch announcement trailer on the RedDeerGames YouTube channel:
The Blind Prophet isn’t strictly a narrative game, but it requires very little interaction, even for a point and click adventure. However, The Blind Prophet is also tremendously moody, and every square inch is packed with gorgeous detail.
The comic book art style is lovingly crafted, and well worth exploring on its own. Both its visuals and themes have elements of John Constantine, Hellblazer, which mostly works. The brooding story unfolds in a straightforward and familiar way, although there are a few surprising twists. Its characters and world are slightly askew, which creates some fun tension.
The main issue that fans have had with the game involve its awkward dialogue, which can sometimes feel riddled with errors. The Nintendo Switch port has a chance to smooth some of that over, but this is probably a long shot.
The Blind Prophet is mostly great to look at, so its atmospheric storytelling may have benefited from a next-gen console. But with so little gameplay required from the player, it should also be very easy to pick up and browse through like an actual graphic novel. This makes it a perfect match for the Switch.
