Velocity Noodle, a 2D precision platformer with neon and synth music from developer Shotgun Anaconda, will finally be ported to consoles on April 27th, 2023. The supported platforms will include the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4.

Velocity Noodle originally launched on PC in January 2022, and is currently available on Steam. You can watch the full announcement trailer on publisher Top Hat Studios’ YouTube channel:

It’s a little strange that Velocity Noodle has decided to mix and match its console generation support. Only Xbox is going to get a current-gen port, which would improve the visuals greatly. However, the Series S does make it easier for Xbox fans to upgrade, while the PlayStation 5 can still be tough to get your hands on.

Either way, Velocity Noodle is going to be a perfect fit for the Switch. The pacing of Velocity Noodle should make it ideal for mobile gaming. Players could easily pick it up for a little while just to practice particular areas for a bit, since its precision approach can indeed feel pretty challenging. It would be beneficial if the ports clean up some of the stiff mechanics, since controller will be quite a different experience.

The premise and Steam page both have a great sense of humor, which the game could have used more of. Velocity Noodle has many traditional platforming mechanics, and probably needed a little more flavor to distinguish itself.

However, the way it rewards speed like Sonic the Hedgehog, with a nice ebb and flow to the level design, can be quite satisfying. Also, the cyberpunk world is somewhat playful and even cute at times, which is rare compared to the typical gloom and doom of the genre.
