Jusant, an upcoming climbing and exploration adventure with puzzle elements from developer and publisher DON’T NOD, will officially launch on October 31st, 2023, according to a new trailer.
Teased in Xbox’s Gamescom 2023 announcement, Jusant also showed off a new trailer today featuring a variety of unique biomes, sky-high climbing, mysterious tech and more.
Jusant will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, where it will also be available day one on the Xbox Game Pass. Pre-orders are available now. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer on the developer’s official YouTube channel:
It’s a little surprising that Jusant wound up with a Halloween release date, since its trailers continue to hint that gameplay will be more relaxing than tense. The devs have managed to capture a sense of serenity in its height, rather than intensity.
The game’s official Steam page encourages players to approach the climbing at their own pace, and that gameplay should have “meditative vibes”. Players will need to master climbing tools and mind their stamina meter, and there are certainly many obstacles. But today’s trailer reinforces how patience is beneficial, particularly with such a gentle soundtrack.
Instead of overwhelming urgency, or even the quick-time tests in Tomb Raider’s recent survival trilogy, there is a larger emphasis on mystery. Players need to be thoughtful, not only in solving their path forward, but in discovering clues.
The strange, rotating device seen in today’s trailer also hints at the compelling fantasy of Jusant, which happens to feature an odd little companion that’s made of water. The art design has such a distinct vision, that it will simply be fun to explore. But the gear and obstacles in today’s trailer still look creative and layered enough to challenge players.
