Publisher Ratalaika Games has announced today that the adorable puzzle and platformer indie Pets at Work will finally reach consoles on February 3rd, 2023. According to today’s new tweet, it will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. However, it isn’t made clear if that includes next-gen Xbox consoles too:

Using cute animals is an unfairly satisfying approach for any game, let alone in the indie scene, but Pets at Work also has a fun premise. Pets end up at the workplace all the time, and it’s clear that the devs made the most of their setting. The obstacles are all commonplace objects, akin to a getaway you might find in the Toy Story franchise.

The art design in Pets at Work is remarkably simple, wearing its tiny budget on its sleeve, but the puzzles themselves look pretty neat. Puzzle games can often get away with lesser graphics and the like as long as they’re thoughtful and interesting. The cooperative addition for this game was also a smart way to go because it fits the theme, and despite the puzzles, the tone is consistently casual.

This hidden gem has accumulated a number of solid reviews since it launched in February 2022. Almost exactly a year later now, the console port is well-deserved.

It’ll be a perfect fit for mobile gaming on the Switch, and the simple mechanics should be easily translated to console gaming. The cooperative mode will be much more accessible on a console, too. Local co-op has required remote play, so ideally the console port will smooth this over.

Ratalaika Games also recently announced Wonderland Nights: White Rabbit’s Diary, which launched over the weekend. Developer Nibb Games has made a few other indies, including other cute and clever workplace games like Blessed Work.
