Publisher RedDeerGames has revealed that nPaint, intended to be a Nintendo Switch illustration app, will officially launch on February 10th, 2023. It will only be available on the Nintendo Switch, and there’s no word on support for other platforms. nPaint will deliver fundamental illustration tools in RedDeerGames’ new gameplay trailer, which you can review here:
RedDeerGames has been thriving on Nintendo Switch “alterations” lately, including the equally amusing and misleading new Operating System, which was announced last month. News about a new OS for the Nintendo Switch was interesting, to say the least. But RedDeerGames also launched UnderDungeon just last month, a creative and quirky little game.
So, the publisher can be hit or miss. Their language can often be considered unclear, so when nPaint’s new trailer suggests it will include “professional tools” for a “masterpiece”, that’s surely hyperbole. Throughout the trailer, there’s clearly only a few colors and tools, along with the option to adjust your brush size, so it doesn’t necessarily justify its existence when free online services could do more.
At the very least, nPaint promises to be simple and accessible for younger players. And by presenting this medium to young Switch fans as more of a game than a tool, it could actually spark some interest in painting and digital art.
Similar to Sport & Fun: Swimming, announced last month, many of these little games published by RedDeerGames tend to feel like a novelty while also providing something practical.
nPaint looks to be a basic doodle app for the Nintendo Switch that could help pass the time, and although there are many like it in the mobile scene, the Switch could be more comfortable than some devices.
