Redemption Reapers, a new simulation life game from developer Adglobe and publisher Binary Haze Interactive, has just confirmed an official launch date for February 23rd, 2023.
A physical edition was also revealed to be in development, and it will launch “in late April” according to today’s trailer. A digital and physical combination will be available for $49.99. Redemption Reapers will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.
Here’s the extensive new gameplay overview from publisher Binary Haze Interactive, which elaborates on the characters and combat:
The first announcement trailer from last month didn’t show much gameplay, so although the cinematic was pretty, it’s nice to get such an in-depth look at the mechanics and flow.
Redemption Reapers looks brutal, grim, and bloody, and generally seems to make the most of its dark fantasy setting. Although the heroes revealed today are a little traditional, most of the creature design looks very inspired. These dark armies drive the plot and add a lot of personality to the game.
Besides, the heroes also have well-defined roles, featuring serviceable signature abilities. Players will have the freedom to mold their broader attributes as desired, using standard RPG skill upgrades and the like. But the unit-based combat system is clearly a highlight of the game, encouraging strategy and distinguishing it from similar titles.
The cinematic sequences far outshine the combat, so it’s nice to see how seamless those two aspects will be presented during certain moments in battle. It’s a very unique approach that’s still suitable for the SLG genre.
Overall, some fans of the SLG genre may have been looking for a little more in today’s trailer, but it also looks pretty accessible for newcomers. Either way, combat mechanics aren’t necessarily enough to go on for SLGs, and there’s still time for another trailer before launch, so it’s best to reserve judgment.
