REPLACED has unfortunately been delayed until 2023. This news comes to us from the team themselves, via their Twitter page @REPLACEDgame. Fans excited for the game’s original 2022 release will have to wait a little bit longer for the developers to get the game to a finished state.

For those who don’t know, REPLACED is a half 2d, half 3d platform action game where players play as R.E.A.C.H, an artificial intelligence that has been trapped in the body of a human against its own will. The game will combine cinematic platforming segments, puzzles and free-form combat in its unique 1980’s themed setting.

The reason for the delay is as heartbreaking as the news. The team, which works out parts of Belarus and Ukraine, have been affected by the conflict going on in the area. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has created an incredibly dangerous environment for the developers to work in, and has made the planned release date of REPLACED an impossible deadline to meet.

Thankfully, parts of the team have been relocated to safer areas and the development of the game has been continued. While the game could theoretically be completed before the deadline, the 2023 release date has been set to avoid disappointing or misleading any fans.

Their Twitter post reads “The priority for Sad Cat was for the safety of the team and their families. As a result, part of the team has now relocated and work has only recently restarted on REPLACED.”

While the developers of REPLACED have been relocated, many Ukrainian nationals still face serious danger due to the war in their homeland. To those who can, donating to Ukraine through organizations such as Amnesty International helps protect people caught in the crossfire of this unfortunate crisis.
