Roblox is launching Immersive Ads, a new feature that allows eligible developers to place ad units within their experiences and earn Robux through Immersive Ad payouts. Starting today, a select group of developers can implement ad units in their experiences, with plans to expand eligibility to more experiences throughout 2023.
Implementation is straightforward, giving developers control over the number of ad units, ad formats, and their placement within experiences. Although ad spend will be low initially, developers can expect to see more advertisers and increased revenue in the coming months.
Immersive Ads provide high-quality, native ad units that serve ads programmatically, paying creators through a revenue share for impressions and teleports generated. During the initial testing phase, ad publishers who placed Immersive Ads in their experiences observed a net increase in earnings.
Two immersive ad formats are available: image ads, which are non-clickable static images within the 3D space of an experience, and portal ads, non-clickable static images accompanied by a door that teleports users to another experience.
To check if an experience is eligible for Immersive Ads, developers can visit the Creator Dashboard and look for an Immersive Ads link under the Analytics section. Ineligible developers should stay policy-compliant, complete the Experience Questionnaire, and wait for broader eligibility in 2023.
Ad units can be inserted into experiences by visiting the Creator Marketplace and viewing the Ads category. Package templates for image and portal ad units can be easily dragged and dropped into the experience. Image ad units can also be created by attaching an AdGUI instance to an existing Part.
Developers can track their earnings from ad units through the My Transactions or Group Transactions page. Earnings are paid out on the 25th of the following month. Publisher reporting and analytics will be available within the Creator Dashboard, providing insights into daily earnings, impressions, teleports, and more.
Roblox has future plans for Immersive Ads, including opening publisher access to more experiences, scaling advertiser demand and increasing Earnings Per Mille (EPM) and Earnings Per Teleport (EPT) rates, and launching self-serve advertising tools for creators.
