Terra Memoria, a cozy RPG adventure from indie developer La Moutarde that blends 3D and pixel art, has just released a full trailer that explores the key mechanics and characters.

Terra Memoria still hasn’t confirmed an exact release date, but it’s “coming soon” according to today’s trailer and you can wishlist the game now. It will be available on PC via Steam, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer on publisher Dear Villager’s YouTube channel:

This indie might have more than a few RPG tropes, but today’s trailer doesn’t really delve into its intriguing mythology. Instead, it focuses on familiar mechanics, though the atmosphere is still very impressive.

The art design is a striking approach, boasting both the traditional cozy nostalgia of pixel art and a polished, 3D world. Everything seems to have a perpetual shimmer, creating an upbeat mood, and there are many lush details to unpack. Together with an inspired soundtrack, there are few games that appear so laid back.

That relaxation seems to be the central purpose of the game, and it’s consistently reinforced on the Steam page, where players are encouraged to “go on a road trip”, “take every path”, and even “craft everything”. Even the language of the page itself is casual, and doesn’t take itself seriously at all, which will go a long way.

However, there still seems to be plenty of distinguishable lore about ancient robots, possibly with some nods to Castle in the Sky. The main premise centers on an investigation about attacking robots and a crystal shortage, featuring six unique characters with exploration, fighting, construction, and puzzles.

Perhaps most interesting, the Steam page mentions that players will get to visit both past and present, which opens the game up for larger worldbuilding.
