Sea of Stars, a turn-based and story-driven RPG from developer and publisher Sabotage Studio, has just revealed that it will also launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. These join the previously announced platforms PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Sea of Stars is slated to launch on August 29th, 2023. Here’s the big Xbox announcement from the game’s Twitter feed:

The announcement was accompanied by a cleverly edited video, where the iconic Xbox logo is found by a character in-game. It was a creative little nod, but Xbox did host their own announcement trailer, featuring gameplay so that unfamiliar fans could get a better idea of the game. You can watch the new trailer on Xbox’s YouTube channel here:

Up front in the trailer is guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda, whose talent absolutely shines and gives Sea of Stars a more authentic feeling. That kind of tone and skill simply can’t be emulated, and it ties together a lot of the visuals. Since it would be a delight to listen to the soundtrack by itself, the gameplay will be much more immersive and engaging.

It’s been a long road since Sea of Stars was delayed last year, and no cause for delay was given, so hopefully it’ll have a clean launch. The devs were pretty ambitious with the mechanics, as there are a variety of traditional RPG features.

The art design is probably going to be the selling point of this game. The environments are detailed and inventive enough to appeal to modern gamers while still maintaining the retro feel, making it an ideal love letter to the classics. Each setting looks very unique, so hopefully the gameplay follows suit.
