Seven Doors, an indie puzzle adventure from developer Indigo Studios and publisher SOEDESCO, will finally join major consoles on February 21st, 2023. It will be digitally available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Today’s announcement was accompanied by a brief teaser on SOEDESCO’s official Twitter feed:

Seven Doors has been available on PC for a couple of years now, and although its reviews have been decent, it never really gained traction. Which is a shame, because it does have promise.

It’s a very brief game, admitting it should only run a couple of hours. But the breezy feel is refreshing for the genre, which is rarely casual and often deliberately tries to push players to the brink as much as possible.

Also, the puzzles in Seven Doors are undeniably creative. And when it comes to puzzle games, that’s often more than enough for fans of the genre. For example, Pets at Work is just about as small as it gets for an indie, but the premise and puzzles are a fun selling point. That title recently got a console port release date, too.

Instead of adorable pets, Seven Doors features an atmospheric art design. The setting sort of feels like an escape room, and finding an answer to the mystery is a fun prize to pursue, if not as tasty as a Black Forest cake.

The puzzles offer just enough variety to surprise players, the runtime isn’t demanding, and it should play just fine on consoles. That’s certainly true as a mobile puzzler for the Nintendo Switch. In fact, some of the mechanics may even feel more accessible on console. It’d be nice to see this succeed so that Indigo Studios can try more ambitious projects like 2022’s Charon’s Staircase.
