Sniper Elite 5, the latest sequel in the history-inspired tactical shooter series from developer and publisher Rebellion, has just revealed that Season Two launches tomorrow on March 7th, 2023.
In a new video, the devs added that season two would bring a new campaign mission and other free content. Also, there’s a hint that Rebellion would provide another update sometime tomorrow on the official YouTube channel. You can review today’s full dev video here:
It’s been fascinating to watch Sniper Elite evolve over the years. The series has won over fans of the genre by featuring realistic sniping mechanics, which have been surprisingly elaborate and ambitious since the beginning. The cinematic, slow-motion shots are both iconic and tremendously satisfying, too.
However, the historical settings have also played a large role in the franchise’s success. It adds meaning and context to the missions, as well as thrilling new cosmetics and narratives.
So, it’s a little disappointing that the devs only mentioned a single campaign mission for Season Two. After all, Season Pass One featured two campaign missions and was a major hit. The devs may have simply not invested as much into Season Two. But it’s possible the new campaign mission will be far more ambitious, in addition to the “exciting free content”.
Either way, quality is always better than quantity. Sniper Elite has been pretty consistent overall, expanding its mechanics and stories to create interesting new tactical situations. The beloved series is still going for good reason.
Today’s video remained oddly vague, given that the new season launches tomorrow. But fans can still speculate on the upcoming content until tomorrow’s next dev update by considering Season Pass One. It included a handful of weapon packs, weapon skin packs, a couple of character skins and Wolf Mountain.
