Sonic Frontiers, the 2022 platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, is set to receive a new update featuring the iconic Spin Dash move. The game, which takes players on an adventure through the Starfall Islands as Sonic collects Chaos Emeralds, incorporates traditional Sonic the Hedgehog elements, such as platforming, rings, and grind rails, within its first open-world setting. Players can explore the world, complete challenges, battle robotic enemies, and experience “Cyber Space” levels reminiscent of previous Sonic games.

Morio Kishimoto, the director of Sonic Frontiers, confirmed that Update 2 would bring the Spin Dash to the game. This news comes after leaks suggested the move’s inclusion, and Kishimoto acknowledged the community’s anticipation for the update. Files found in the first update provided hints at the Spin Dash addition, including animation, a message explaining its use, and “Spin Boost” files.

The Spin Dash, first introduced in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, is a powerful move in which the user blasts forward with a revved-up Spin Attack from a stationary position. This signature technique of Sonic has become one of the most recognizable and frequently used moves throughout the franchise.

Kishimoto also mentioned that the Chao Garden, a popular feature in past Sonic games, is being considered for inclusion in the next major Sonic title. While not yet confirmed, fans of the series will surely be excited about the potential return of the beloved Chao Garden.

As the Sonic Frontiers team prepares to release Update 2, players can look forward to the addition of the Spin Dash move and the possibility of the Chao Garden making a return in a future game.

Sonic Frontiers was released on November 8, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
