Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game developed by Endnight Games and is the sequel to the popular game, The Forest. The game takes place in an open-world forest environment where players are tasked with surviving after a plane crash by scavenging for resources and building shelters. However, the forest is home to various dangerous creatures including mutated creatures, cannibals and other mysterious entities that the player must defend themselves against. The game boasts new features such as improved graphics, new weapons, crafting options, and a more advanced building system.

While the game experienced some problems at launch due to Steam having issues and making players unable to purchase, it looks like the sequel to The Forest is off to a strong start. According to Steam Charts, the game reached over 350,000 players at its peak and is maintaining over 300,000 players currently. It stands to reason that the weekend might bring an additional peak to the player count, which will be great news for the developers at Endnight Games.

The number currently puts them in the top 10 played games on Steam right now, with just Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Apex Legends, and PUBG, having more players on it at the time of this writing.

This marks another incredibly successful debut for the survival genre, which continues to intrigue players across the globe. One thing to note, however, is games like this don’t always have the longest shelf life. Valheim, for instance, brought in a ton of players at first but quickly waned in popularity as players reached the limits of the content. We will have to wait and see if Sons of the Forest has the staying power to keep people engaged.
