Silence of the Siren, a turn-based strategy and sci-fi exploration indie from developer and publisher Oxymoron Games, has released a new trailer about the base UI and mechanics. The trailer features both gameplay and narration from one of the devs.
Silence of the Siren has not confirmed a release date yet, but an old post on Steam hints the devs are aiming to release it into Early Access sometime this year. It will be available on PC via Steam, where you can wishlist it now. You can watch today’s Base UI trailer on the Oxymoron Games YouTube channel:
In Silence of the Siren, a variety of different species are all vying to control a distant star system, so players will spend a lot of their time building armies rather than surviving space itself, as seen in Fragile Existence.
However, one of the central mechanics is actually base building, and discovering crucial resources to upgrade it. As a result, many of these early gameplay trailers have concentrated on handling bases.
The Steam page also admits that it’s an “old school strategy game”, so although some of its concepts may sound familiar, the novelty is in its mechanics. That makes today’s trailer important for sparking interest in fans of the genre.
The base UI packs a lot of information into one screen, so it looks a little cluttered and intimidating. However, the controls themselves are fairly intuitive and more accessible.
For example, buildings that rely on each other are highlighted when you hover over them, which conveniently ensures you won’t have to memorize absolutely everything. Actions like recruitment and trading should be relatively easy to manage.
The art design is also unexpectedly polished, with quirky and inventive little characters. Hopefully, broader gameplay trailers will give interested players a better idea of the tone, narrative, and other mechanics soon.
