Luna-3X, an upcoming action rhythm game about a giant and a child rescuing critters from a tsunami, will officially get a digital release on Nintendo Switch. A physical release, or support for other platforms, have not been announced yet.
Developed by Pygmy Studio and published by Red Art Games, Luna-3X has not confirmed an exact release date yet. However, today’s trailer hints that it’s “coming soon”, and reveals key gameplay mechanics. You can watch today’s digital announcement trailer on the Red Art Games YouTube channel:
Surprisingly, neither the devs nor publisher have shared very much about Luna-3X until now. Today’s trailer reveals that players will need to use rhythm skills to collect creatures in a variety of environments, rescuing them before a Great Tsunami hits the entire world. Actions are performed by tilting joy-cons and pressing buttons on time, while natural obstacles like sudden gusts hinder you.
The creatures in danger are called Kemonon and Plan-Plan, which are attracted to music. This is a simple and clever way to justify the rhythm game elements. The art design of the creatures might seem a little bizarre at times, but most of them are rather cute. Luna-3X has an oddly adorable world for such a grim premise, though your cause is uplifting.
Fans of obscure titles from Japan, which are reliably filled with terrific cultural influence, should definitely take a liking to Luna-3X. There’s a unique flair and fantasy in its gameplay, music, and visuals.
Pygmy Studio, based in Japan, has been in the industry for years though, and Red Art Games is known for bringing compelling titles to the west, such as April’s announcement for Castle of Shikigami 2.
