TERA Online, the 10-year-old MMORPG, is to be shut down on June 30th.
Tera Online Shutting Down

Sad news for fans of the MMORPG TERA Online. TERA is to be shut down, disabling all game servers for good. Current players and newcomers to TERA will no longer be able to access the game after its shutdown date of June 30th 2022, which will mark the end of the somewhat popular MMORPG.

This decision comes as the game’s sole developer, Bluehole, has decided to cease development on the game. Being an MMORPG, the constant development of new features is required to keep a game like TERA running. Without new additions, players who have completed all available content have no reason to return, effectively killing the game.

The TERA team had this to say about Bluehole’s decision to stop development:

” After much consideration, the team in South Korea have come to the conclusion that they are no longer able to offer you the exciting and satisfying content you deserve. As the last remaining publisher of TERA, it is with a heavy heart that we must respect Bluehole’s decision, and will also have to shut down the game. “

TERA as a game has been running for nearly 10 years, being one of the older MMORPGs on the market. Though never receiving quite as much popularity as similar games of the genre, TERA maintained a dedicated fanbase to the end who vouch for the game’s unique and fun experience.

This news comes to us from a blog post made by the TERA team. While TERA may be gone, there’s hope that the team may release another game in the future, hinted at by this quote at the end of their post:

“Our days in Arborea may be numbered, but the next adventure is just over the horizon. We hope to see you again soon in one of our other games.”
