Telltale Games has set some very high expectations over the years, following the success of staples like their Walking Dead games, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Enemy Within. Their characterization and stories are often considered faithful, entertaining elaborations on some very beloved and high stakes IP.
It has also been a very long time since Telltale Games actually published anything, so fans of its signature gameplay are sure to tune in, even if they’re unfamiliar with The Expanse.
The Expanse is new ground for Telltale Games, but its lore has all of the potential for the same kind of storytelling. The vast setting alone is filled with the potential for tough choices.
Today’s teaser makes it very clear that the devs have an understanding of the drama and tension fans of the show will expect. There is also a visual flair that feels consistent, with well-staged suspense, sound effects, and action sequences.
It will be very interesting to see a few of the more interactive moments, which will likely release closer to launch. It genuinely seems like Telltale Games has done it again, as Deck Nine neatly balances the pacing and fidelity to make The Expanse: A Telltale Series another instant classic.
