The Outbound Ghost, a playful RPG about the afterlife, has seen a lot of trouble since launching on various platforms. Developed by indie studio Conradical Games, the lead developer Conrad has carefully addressed major complaints about the messy releases, citing today that their “relationship with the publisher has been dissolved”:
The Outbound Ghost was not up to the developer’s standards at the time of publishing, and The Outbound Ghost is “no longer authorized” on Steam. Smaller studios must put in higher amounts of effort due to fewer resources, but fans have rallied behind the future of the game with love and support.
Luckily, the lead developer has handled the situation like a pro. They directly discuss the situation at hand, acknowledging the disappointment and confusion outright. But they also dictate their plans on how to remedy their passion project and reward fans for sticking with them. This will include “additional rewards” later on, alongside a self-published version of The Outbound Ghost.
This tiny game has enormous potential, and it’s generally a massive win when publishers elect to move forward with small titles. So, it’s a shame to see a launch like this fall apart. Nothing official has been stated, but it seems as if the publishers were aiming for an earlier release date and disagreed with the developer over the final performance of the game.
Which would be odd, because plenty of small games afford themselves the opportunities of a delay. While the Disney Speedstorm delay is sure to kill some hype, indie titles demand smooth launches to pave the way for future games. Immersion Games even sold their Divine Duel delay as a price reveal.
No matter the cause, The Outbound Ghost and Conradical Games deserve a path forward. You can read more about indie titles and updates by checking out the rest of our news section.
