Black Forest Games has seen considerable success in recent years with the remakes of the Destroy All Humans! series, but it seems the developer is working on a new title. Detailed in a post on a German website, the THQ Nordic-owned studio is working on a new title called ‘Super Shotgun‘ that has received $3 million euros, or $3.92 million, in funding from subsidies during development.
The post on GamesWirtschaft doesn’t give a lot of information about the title outside of saying that it’s in development and planned for release in May 2025, a little less than two years from now. At the same time, ‘Super Shotgun‘ could just be a working title to keep details from the game from leaking before the company is ready. There’s a lot that’s unknown at this time.
We can look at past subsidies that Black Forest Games has received though, with the developer receiving 2.2 million euros, or $2.4 million, from the Ministry of Transport in spring 2021 for Project Cattleprod 2. Considering that this is a larger investment, one would think ‘Project Shotgun‘ would have been one of the larger projects that Black Forest Games has taken.
This investment in THQ Nordic’s studio isn’t even the largest the government has paid, although the overall holder Embracer Group does have many of the top spots. The largest investment from the German government in games comes from an in-development title from Pirahna Bytes that’s expected to release in 2026, according to GamesWirtschaft.
With this title expected to release in the next couple of years, Black Forest will likely share details about the game in its own time. With THQ Nordic having a digital showcase planned for August 11, 2023, we may get more information about upcoming titles before we know it.
