Tin Hearts, an upcoming puzzle adventure about toy soldiers from developer Rogue Sun and publisher Wired Productions, has just released nearly ten full minutes of gameplay. Drawn from the Nintendo Switch, the gameplay features all-new footage of ‘Act II – the Music Room’. It’s accompanied by insightful narration from game producer Sam Clay.
Tin Hearts is releasing on April 20th, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch. The game recently delayed its release date for PC, PlayStation and Xbox until May 16th, 2023. You can watch all of the exclusive new gameplay on the Wired Productions YouTube channel here:
The first thing that stands out about today’s showcase is how much of it is reserved for the patient exploration of memories. With mechanics that let you plan ahead, there is far more of a casual tone than already expected, since events would ordinarily escalate with each Act in a traditional puzzle game.
Instead, Players basically get to set up a Rube Goldberg system, then enjoy the adorable results. Your primary prize is establishing a deeper understanding, which may disappoint some fans who were expecting the frantic survival of It Takes Two and the like.
However, puzzles naturally lend themselves to quiet and thoughtful gameplay too. And if you begin to lose interest with Tin Hearts’ pacing, you can still fast-forward as the toy soldiers travel through the course that you set. After all, they’re quite small, and don’t move especially fast.
While it does seem like the charm of their movement and world is a key point of the game, it’s clear the devs were careful to make Tin Hearts as accessible as possible. Today’s gameplay did a fine job of revealing key mechanics that will help set proper expectations.
