Tin Hearts, the upcoming puzzle and toy adventure game from developer Rogue Sun and publisher Wired Productions, has just released a new gameplay trailer.

Aside from a narrated walkthrough, the trailer reveals that Tin Hearts will now be launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on April 20th, 2023. The PC, PlayStation and Xbox versions have been delayed to May 16th, 2023. These versions were all previously expected to roll out on the same day as the Switch according to an official tweet from last January:

Although fans may be disappointed, the delay will only last under a month. At the very least, the Nintendo Switch’s mobility is well suited for Tin Hearts’ genre. It’s unclear if this was a beneficial move, or if the game needed more polishing for the other ports. It was already delayed last year, when it was originally expected to launch in Winter 2022.

The art design of Tin Hearts makes an immediate impression, aiming for a vintage world instead of a retro one, even though the latter is much easier nostalgia bait. The characters and environments have a strangely tactile and realistic look, but they remain absolutely adorable.

The casual, soft tones of the visuals and music almost feel like something festive for the holidays. Today’s trailer sort of reinforces themes of the holidays by elaborating on a human story about self-reflection.

It’s also nice to see just how surprisingly flexible the mechanics will be in Tin Hearts. Puzzle games need to evolve throughout the story, building on the features that make the title unique. There are quite a few sparks of creativity in Tin Hearts, and they feel very balanced, too.
