Trepang2, the gory action indie hit from developer Trepang Studios and publisher Team17, has just revealed that the next-gen ports for Xbox and PlayStation, which were first announced back in June, will finally release on October 2nd, 2023.
Trepang2 originally launched in June and is available now on PC via GOG or Steam, with no word on a Switch or last-gen release. Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions are also available now, and a new post from the game’s official feed reveals that fans who pre-order will get an exclusive outfit DLC.

Trepang2 made quite the splash when it first launched in June, for its bold and gritty approach to the genre. It’s also a highly concentrated dose of action, almost akin to an arcade classic. The game is considered quite short, but the loop is magnificent, with incredible pacing, controls, and atmosphere. You can read our full review here for closer details.
Trepang2 continued to renew interest since launch, and according to a recent post on the Steam page, Patch 1 was just submitted for approval last week. There should be new combat simulator maps, cosmetics, and a wide range of bug fixes, addressing everything from the campaign to localization. Ideally, the console versions will include additional patches sooner than later.
This runaway hit is certain to thrive on next-gen consoles, and it deserves the new audiences. There’s a major divide between PC and console players, even when games provide controller support.
In addition to the unique console features, there’s always the chance that Trepang2 could end up on their corresponding subscription services later on, but it’s worth purchasing now rather than waiting.
