Goblinz Publishing and Red Art Games have announced the upcoming release of Oaken, the turn-based tactical roguelike game developed by Laki Studios. After a successful early access phase, the publishers revealed that the full version of Oaken will finally be available later this month.
Originally introduced in May 2022 through early access for PC, Oaken has received extensive updates based on valuable player feedback. After over a year in the early access phase, Oaken is now set for a full version release on July 20th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
Oaken immerses players in a mythical world, existing in an unconventional space and time, stretched among the branches of the Great Oak. Inhabitants of this world are spirits that listen to the same voice, called the Oak Song. However, the voice eventually becomes silent and starts a series of events that lead to a struggle that may either heal or destroy the Great Oak.
At its core, Oaken features a roguelike, hero-oriented campaign with deck management. Within a randomly generated world map, players will encounter tons of levels, challenging bosses, and exciting events. Oaken also offers unique, highly tactical battles on a hexagonal grid, where position and rotation are everything. As players explore the Great Oak, they will gather allies and trinkets, learn to use the positioning to their advantage, and upgrade their spells and spirits to suit their unique playstyle.
The full version of Oaken brings forth several new content for players to enjoy, including a completely new faction and a new hero boasting a unique pool of units and spells. Players can also look forward to a few more Guides and an alternative world for each of the first three chapters. With twice as much playable content as the early access version, the full version of Oaken promises an exciting experience that maintains the same playthrough length.
Early access placeholder elements such as art, sounds, and visual effects will also be replaced, while Cards and levels will be better balanced. New modes, including a versus mode, will also be introduced, and the performance will be further optimized to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience.
A demo version of Oaken is currently available on Steam for those who wish to try out some of the game’s exciting features.
