Product manager Coleman Palm updated Valorant fans today with the huge announcement that the fresh new mode “Swiftplay” will officially leave Beta and become a permanent addition. The game mode was an instant hit, and it will be included permanently in patch 6.03.
Here’s the full announcement from Valorant’s Twitter feed, which includes a brief video elaborating on how the devs will move forward with Swiftplay:
Naturally, there has been almost unanimous praise for today’s news. Swiftplay truly lived up to its name, offering players the perfect opportunity to warm up with some instant action. Apex Legends, another popular hero shooter, only just announced the addition of Team Deathmatch. It’s much later by comparison, especially for a battle royale game.
Aside from warming up for more serious matches, Swiftplay is plenty of fun on its own. The mechanics are more accessible for casual gamers, too, thanks to just a few minor changes compared to Unrated. So, Swiftplay mode may very well invite a lot of newcomers to the game, who would otherwise be intimidated by some of the more competitive sides of Valorant.
Fortunately, today’s announcement added that the Valorant devs will continue to work on improving Swiftplay even though it’s leaving Beta. So, even if the mode will need to be refined later on, they aren’t going to leave the mode as is.
That was certainly nice to hear, although any permanent addition to the game ought to be supported anyway. Fans were encouraged to continue giving feedback, and every community wants to be heard, so that was another win today.
Most recently, Valorant released patch 6.02, which included some minor balancing changes and improvements for general quality of life.
