VALORANT update 6.02 releases today, which includes several Stinger changes, bug fixes, and some other Gameplay System changes to help when playing against high-ping.

Riot Games is back with another VALORANT update for Patch 6.02. One of the highlights of this update is the rebalancing made to the Stinger weapon. Riot Games revealed that they have determined the Stinger to be overperforming at its pricing point for medium to long-range engagements. The strategy of force buying Heavy Armor and Stinger in rounds 2 and 3 was too effective, and it lacked the right level of complexity and economic tradeoffs. As such, the following adjustments were made to Stinger in order to limit access to this strategy:

  • Cost increased from 950 to 1100
  • Damage fall-off changed:
    • Previously:
      • 27 damage per bullet (0 – 20m)
      • 25 damage per bullet (20m+)
    • Now:
      • 27 damage per bullet (0 – 15m)
      • 23 damage per bullet (15m+)

VALORANT Patch 6.02 also made changes to the Gameplay System designed to reduce the influence of another player’s network conditions on the game. According to Riot Games, when a player fires a shot, it takes time for the input to reach the server. To prevent players from needing to lead their shots, VALORANT implements server rewinding. When the server determines the outcome of a shot, it rewinds character positions around the bullet to match their locations at the time when the shot was initially fired.

At launch, the max rewind value was set to 200 ms based on what is considered acceptable networking conditions to play VALORANT. Based on player data since launch, Riot Games have determined that this value is too high for the networking conditions experienced by most of the players. As such the max server rewind is now adjusted down to 140 ms.

Several bug fixes, including some issues with KAY/O and Cypher‘s abilities, were also implemented as part of patch 6.02, which you can read more about on the VALORANT website.
